We had perfect weather (sun with highs in mid 70's) to race the hilly course. It is a nice, middle sized marathon which is very friendly, and hilly. This is not the marathon for those looking to qualify for Boston because of the number of turns in the course, and did I mention it is hilly? All the work on the Kemah Bridge helped alot as did the most recent run on the Hartman Bridge. They have what they call "Charging Battery Hill" and imagine the slope of the Kemah Bridge but the length of the Hartman Bridge. The marathon has a big group of professional drummers who set a beat which helps you attack the hill.I had a wonderful time and saw fellow Texans, Steve Boone and his wife.I made a very decent chip time of 5:09:29 and (with all the hill training we have had) managed to run the whole marathon including all the hills.
